As a Texan, I grew up with all the excitement that comes with the annual rodeo season. I live in Houston, so I am biased about the Houston Livestock Show & Rodeo. But bias aside, the Houston rodeo is THE largest rodeo in the world. Last year’s (2008) general attendance which includes the World’s Championship Bar-B-Que Contest was 1,802,158. That’s right, almost 2 million people!!!

I think they should put this event on the “100 Things To Do / Places To Go Before I Die” list. Maybe it already is. Anyway, as the Lone Star state kicks off its 2009 rodeo season and with all the expected influx of visitors, it’s a good idea to go ahead and make your travel arrangements early. Here are some quick links to help you get started.

I’ve listed all the rodeos in chronological order of when each starts. There are some overlapping in dates, but if you want to get your fill of rodeo, there’s no better time to start planning. (I just realized most of them starts earlier than the Houston rodeo. I guess they knew they couldn’t compete with the Houston program, so it’s better to get in early before even the die-hards have a rodeo burnout.)

If you’re a foodie like me, you must do your research on where to eat in Houston at B4-U-EAT. It’s a local restaurant review site run by a Houstonian. This is what the locals use and what I personally use each time before I try a new restaurant. Houston is a great city (4th largest in U.S.) for a foodie. The selection of restaurants is amazing due to our diverse ethnic population. Anyway, with over 35,000 reviews, you can’t go wrong. The website is the not best looking, but this is definitely a case of quality content over appearances. Check it out!
